In Science we have been learning about different materials and investigating their properties. We had lots of fun twisting, bending and stretching different materials and recording our investigations.
We have also been finding out about the work of Vincent Van Gogh, and were inspired by his painting ‘Starry Night’ to create our own works of art! I am sure you will agree what talented artists we are in Maple Class!
Our new topic for Autumn 2 is ‘A Toy Story’.
We were really fortunate to have a visit from the ‘Travelling Toy Box’ before half term. We got to see toys which children played with long ago and learn about how they worked. We even met a doll who was over 100 years old! We had the opportunity to play with lots of different toys, old and new. The event was a great success and the class really enjoyed this as a ‘kick start’ for our topic.
We have been discussing why we have toys and wrote about our favourite toy. We have tried our hand at interviewing adults to find out what they played with as a child, and we are now looking at how toys have changed through the last 100 years.
We have enjoyed the story of Dogger by Shirley Hughes and have made story maps ready to write our own versions.
We learnt about the Hindu and Sikh festival of Diwali which is celebrated at this time of the year. We listened to and retold the story of Rama and Sita, some of us making our own little story books. We also had great fun making sparkly Diwali lanterns in Golden Time.
