Leicester University Numbers project

Year 3 and 4 children enjoyed a Thursday morning engaging with a number project being carried out by the University of Leicester.

We were given packs of number cards (1-100) each card with a photograph and personal details of different Leicester residents holding up one of the one hundred numbers. We chose to try out a number of the suggested activities, including the more obvious tasks of ordering, sorting and grouping, and the possibly less obvious activities of selecting and explaining the personal importance of particular numbers to us.

We also looked at number through our speaking and listening English activities, creating a question and answer role-play based around the person shown holding the number card allocated to our group.

It certainly helped us all to look at and think about numbers in very different ways!
