Welcome back! We have had a lovely first week back at school. Our theme this term continues to be 'Going Wild', and we will be learning all about different types of animals and dinosaurs. We have begun our animal theme by making a vets surgery in our role play area which the children have been very involved in. We look forward to sharing lots of pictures of us getting involved with our exciting topic over the next few weeks.
Welcome back! We hope you have all had a restful Easter and are ready for another busy term.
Our topic this term in Reception is 'Going Wild!'. We have begun learning all about plants and growing and will enjoy watching the different seeds and plants that we have planted, grow. We are hoping to grow a variety of vegetables which we will harvest in the Autumn! We also hope to visit Sapcote Garden Centre as soon as possible!
In our outdoor area we have created a garden centre role-play area which the children are very excited about developing. They will be responsible for looking after and taking care of the plants that they are growing. We have also recently purchased some new wicker planters where the children will plant a variety of plants, fruits and vegetables and help to look after them everyday.
We will also be learning about mini-beasts and looking at the lifecycle of a butterfly and a frog.
Later in the term we will be learning all about animals.
Welcome back! We hope you have all had a restful break!
Our theme in Reception this half term is 'Out of this world!' We will begin by finding out all about Space. We will investigate the planets, take imaginary journeys to the moon and beyond and use our creative minds to design our own aliens and planets. We will enjoy reading space themed stories such as Aliens love underpants, Whatever Next and Albie and the Space Rocket as well as finding out about the first man on the moon. In the classroom we will enjoy building a space ship in the role play area to take us on our imaginary journeys. As the term progresses we will enjoy sharing our learning with you!
This week we have enjoyed listening to the story, ‘Aliens Love Underpants’. As part of our space theme, the children designed their own aliens. They thought hard about what their alien would look like and worked hard to include fine detail. After they had painted their alien, they embellished their designs with a variety of craft materials such as pom-poms, feathers, googly eyes and pipe cleaners.
Welcome back! The children have settled back in to the routines of school quickly and happily. They have begun their new topic, 'Here, There and Everywhere!' and are all very excited and enthusiastic about it. Through the topic, we will be finding out about different countries around the world. We have begun by learning more about the Arctic and the Antarctic. The children have helped to turn a tent into an igloo for their role-play area. Later in the term, we will be finding out about China and celebrating Chinese New Year, Italy, Kenya and many more places!
Reception's topic this term is ‘Once Upon a Time…’ where we will be learning all about Fairy Tales. The children will be encouraged to listen to and retell stories in their own words as well as developing their writing skills. There will be lots of opportunities to dress up and re-enact their favourite stories through role-play. We will also use small world figures and puppets to develop their story telling skills. If your child would like to bring in a copy of their favourite Fairy Tale then we would love to share it with the rest of the class, but please remember to name it!
We will also be learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali as well as finding out about why we celebrate bonfire night.
On 11th November, the children will be joining the pupils from Sapcote School at All Saint’s Church, where we will be taking part in a Remembrance Day Service. The theme for this service will be ‘Peace’.
Finally, the festive season of Christmas is drawing ever closer and we will starting to rehearse for our annual Christmas Production. It's a very busy term ahead but it's sure to be lots of fun!
Today we invited Dr Rowe to come and talk to us all about his job and how he helps to look after people. He showed us his kit bag and told us all about the different equipment he uses. He also talked about germs and how we can help prevent them from spreading. Also, he told us about different types of injections that we can have and how they can help to prevent diseases from spreading. We looked at some x-rays and learned how they can help doctors to find out if we have any broken bones.
Today the children had an exciting afternoon baking cheese wheat meal biscuits with Mrs Bryan. They helped to weigh and measure the ingredients and mix them all together before rolling the mixture out and using cutters to shape them. Finally we placed them in the oven to bake.
The staff and pupils from Willow Class would like to welcome all our lovely new Reception pupils. We will be spending the next couple of weeks settling the children in, getting them used to the routines of the class. We will be assessing each child individually, in order to plan lessons and activities which suit the needs of each individual child. After that we will begin this terms topic, 'All About Me!'.
Reception have had a tiring but exciting first week in school and we have been extremely proud of the way the children have settled. Take a look at the pictures and see how busy we have been!
