Summer 2019

Our final topic this year is dinosaurs!  The children are extremely enthusiastic; learning all about the different types of dinosaurs as well as naming the different periods of time that the dinosaurs existed!   We as staff have been impressed at the children's ability to name such difficult sounding creatures and words in such a short space of time!  In the coming weeks we will be finding out about fossils and learning about the famous fossil hunter 'Mary Anning'.  We will also be creating our own dinosaur models using clay and writing our own dinosaur adventure stories as well as creating dinosaur fact files.

Reception children have really enjoyed the balance bike training they have received from beat the street team at Blaby District Council.  Thank you so much to coaches Ben and Lauren for all their hard work and support, the children have loved it!

Today Holly class went on a trip to Rutland Water.  We learnt about different creatures and their habitats.  We went pond dipping and looked carefully at the different creatures that we found using an identification sheet to name them. We then went minibeast hunting in the woodland, lifting logs and stones to find a vast array of minibeasts.  The children enjoyed looking closely at the different creatures using the magnifying glasses.  Again, we used identification sheets to find out the names of the creatures that we had collected.  Finally, in the afternoon, we walked down to the bird hide and used binoculars to bird watch.  Our teacher told us the names of the different birds and lots of interesting information about them.

Welcome back!  We hope you all had a restful holiday.  Our topic this half term in Reception and Year One is called 'Enchanted Woodland.' We will be looking at nature, planting and growing and taking part in science investigations.  We will also be looking at the work of the sculptor, Andy Goldsworthy and creating our own outdoor sculptures using the natural environment.

Today Reception children visited Sharnford Garden Centre.  Andrew, the owner, showed us around.  We looked at a range of plants and Andrew told us all about them.  He told us all what plants need to stay alive and healthy. He gave us lots of plants and an apple tree to take back to school and plant in our own outdoor area.
